The New Look of Glamour
Meaning of Glamour – having fun with stones – does not rely on opulence – playful, sleek tones.
Paris in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s was the most glamorous city on earth. It was the center of international high society and haute couture and the balls were absolutely fabulous and legendary like the oriental ball in 1969 given by Baron Alexis de Rédé and Baroness Marie Hélène de Rothschild at the famous Hotel Lambert, the most divine house in Paris, a kind of small scale 17th century palace on the Isle St Louis and one of the grandest houses in the world filled with unimaginable art works! Here at this ball is my mother in gold lamé and white with the present Queen of Denmark and her husband the Prince Consort Henrick and standing in green Denise Hale then Mrs. Vincent Minelli. I went to the last ball there in 1984, the Fairy Tale Ball.
Pratolino August 1959, my mother dressed by Emilio Pucci photographed in Vogue. Pratolino was the enchanting estate of my grandparents outside of Florence. She and my father drove there from the South of France and made a stop in Piemonte to visit the Castle of Raconigi where my mother grew up. There was a lake there, filled with the most beautiful lilies that had been a gift from the Emperor of China to my great grandfather King Victor Emanuel III before WWI. My mother took a whole bunch of them in a bucket, brought them to Pratolino and put them in the lake in front of the Appenino, the famous giant statue by Gianbologna. They quickly spread all over and are still there today.
